 ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you eager to be at the forefront of shaping Australia’s response to emerging environmental protection issues in the maritime sector? 

The Environment Policy and Standards team is seeking a Director to help shape Australia's domestic and international efforts to protect the marine environment from the impacts of shipping.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Environment Policy and Standards and leading a small team, the Director Policy and Regulatory will formulate, examine and evaluate policy and make recommendations on policy issues (technical and administrative) related to international maritime conventions and their implementation in Australia.

The Director will use their strong communication, policy and regulatory skills to identify and pursue engagement opportunities, both internationally and domestically, identify and inform Australia’s position on existing and emerging maritime issues and provide recommendations on how Australia should respond to these.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

• Demonstrated ability at a senior level to understand, develop and administer policy, legislation and international conventions, preferably in relation to maritime environment protection, or an ability to quickly gain this knowledge
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver results to a high standard in a timely manner.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis, synthesising complex information to develop policy and regulatory options or advice, and the ability to present this at a senior level.
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent work experience, preferably in a policy or regulatory role at a senior level.
